That’s my point. And I don’t think it is unreasonable.
1. Our union requires us to pay. While I don’t have problem with that because we all benefit from our union’s efforts and the contract they negotiate including the fee remaining nonmembers who don’t pay.

2. …So It is unreasonable to say I would take your money still but kick you out if you don’t meet MY standard for involvement. Should we still tax Americans who didn’t serve in the military but take away their citizenship and right to vote because they don’t meet some self righteous individual’s personal expectation as a citizen? Nope because that would be absurd and your willingness to do that in a union is no different. Different folks are more or less involved because we are free to do what we want but we still have to pay our share of $ to fund the processes necessary for a functioning union. Those that get involved have more influence over the organization. Those that don’t just pay and support in other ways. The union is not the center of the universe for most folks. Do you really want to be told by somebody who you are paying with your dues what your level of involvement must be? Will you feel the same if that guy demands more than you currently think is necessary? There’s always somebody more “dedicated” and expects more (maybe to the point of ridiculous) than you.

Just realized this discussion started on a thread about jackets. 😜
