If they had any inkling the NMB would be quick to declare impasse and release into a cooling, would they really have filed for NMB negotiations? Wouldn’t it have made more sense to just continue direct negotiations with ALPA? It seems their move was done with zero fear and well thought out in advance.
They didn't know who the mediator was going to be prior to filing. Doesn't he have some say in how long this drags out? And the company has already taken a position that we are at, or near, an impasse.
