But to ask the obvious question back at you, you knew the pay scales and benefits when you signed on. Do you truly expect to go to retirement with no improvements in the current contract? To ask nothing from the JCBA? To tell the management (whichever the h€|| management it will be), “No, I signed on for NK pay scales, let’s just keep those…”?
It's not that we don't care about those behind us, we just recognize that it's incredibly short-sighted to help the company out with their recruiting and retention problem mid-cycle. The staffing issue offers us a great deal of leverage in negotiating a better contract for everyone in the intermediate term, and the potential to make this a career destination for all of us in the long-run if we are patient. If a merger is approved, the company will be forced to the table, and improvements will be made across the board. Like it or not, this was the CBA that was ratified by the pilot group on property 4 years ago. Helping the company staff the airline now so a few can benefit in the short-term would be detrimental to the majority of the group in the long-term, especially those who intend to stay.
