It’s either UPS is so arrogant that they think they don’t need to be receiving a constant influx of fresh apps or too stupid to think they have enough applicants in their database. Granted, hiring 300-400 a year is a much different proposition than 2,000, you can afford to be more selective, but still, having more options is better than less.
I think the reality is that, even though we are hiring in huge numbers as a percentage of pilot group, the raw numbers are so small that we really can be picky. That said, the current HR process, which has dropped the sim portion, has been producing a higher than normal number of newhire duds. I’m guessing we will continue to muddle along with a less than stellar HR process picking the new hires. It is Brown and they rely on a superior business model and neglect a lot of other aspects of the business that could boost productivity and profit.
