There is no doubt they have dabbled here and there in medium cities and cities in Midwest and west. Dabbled being the key word. B6 has largely stuck with their bread and butter since their inception. JetBlue does extremely well in 3 market segments. JetBlue is an extremely popular snow-bird shuttle (anywhere in northeast to Florida). That’s a lucrative market that I’d argue they probably do Better than anyone. B6 also does the Caribbean very well and has strong presence on all the islands. Lastly the mint, higher cost higher service coast to coast has been a smash hit for them.
now having said that, it rings hollow to me that they now suddenly are enthralled with expansion into new markets Midwest, west , and otherwise. I think they never saw value in places like Des Moines, Myrtle beach, Latrobe, St. Louis, Indianapolis. NK and F9 has seen value in going into places like that. But now suddenly they do? All the big markets have been there all along as well for them to go full pressure. Think large metros like ATL, PHX, IAH, SEA, ORD etc. of course they fly there but have they really tried to scale up large in those cities ? I’d argue no. This is simply a play to box out a potential large competitor in all those markets and others all under the guise that this seemingly last minute effort is best for our shareholders stakeholders alike, that’s it’s all better for us. Sorry not buying it. It’s a defensive move. They see a threat and are fighting to block it. Had they seen value in expanding largely into new markets they would he done it. They largely haven’t. They strategically have stuck with their bread and butter. Live by the sword die by the sword. I’d be much happier if they play in their sandbox and we play in ours.
I guess we’ll just have to see instead of speculating
