Eh. It happens. (I swear they must have jacked the airport up a few feet from when we last landed here!)

I recall an incident where I was sitting at a gate once getting ready to depart. A CRJ pulled into the ramp space next to us and started to deplane. Right as the door opened, the crew of that aircraft called us on the ops freq and asked me to "keep an eye on the passengers as they deplane."

Although it was an odd request, I figured that maybe they were running an engine or CS was short staffed so I looked up as they came down the airstairs. Sure enough, every one of them was smiling and waving. Of course, not wanting to be a jerk, I had to stop my preflight checks and wave back.

Finally after they deplaned, the CA of that flight comes running over. I ask him what the deal was and he says- "Hey thanks! I had a really sh--ty landing, so to take their mind off of it, I told them it was your birthday and you just asked your flight attendant to marry you."

We had a good laugh about it. (And he didn't get any grief!)
