Common sense for me says the company will use the lowest cost viable option. That's why Boeing is still making airliners. The development cost would put them out of that business is the company theme.
Development cost? It’s already implemented on the 767-400. Boeing is in the hole it is today because bean counters took over and got rid of the engineers.
