But to answer your question, only a new contract will move the ball. And even then, I don't think it'll move the attrition line much. Even if we get the ALPA ask and we get 320/hr, why stay here for 320/hr and be permanent 737 with 5 bases on the west coast only, when you could go to the big 3 and get 325/hr+ and various bases throughout the country, not to mention widebodies with even higher pay? I've said it before, a new contract will not fix the structural issues of what a career here entails: geographically limited bases, single fleet, domestic/N.A. only, and narrowbody only max pay.
The fact that I’ve considered AS as just a stepping stone and not a final career destination as a PNW guy is unfortunate because the pilot group is truly incredible. I would’ve never even considered that a few years ago but this hiring market is unique. I just wish the company decided to be a little more aggressive with growth and expansion but they’re very happy in the PNW and one word niche. I feel the biggest issue for y’all talking to crews is the scheduling and lack of flexibility with said schedule. Is that something that y’all have voiced pretty loudly?
