I just got accepted to Destination 225. I also applied to pretty much all the the other major carriers that have similar programs. But they are all very far behind and take forever to move you along in the process. SWA’s D225 was very straight forward and timely on all the steps. My concern is the high cost. I sat through a webinar on Alaskan’s Airs Ascend program which is half the cost and you don’t have to flight instruct with the flight school. After you have all your certifications, you can do any flying job you wish. I’m curious if anyone has any information on any of the other programs to share. Thanks in advance.

The Alaska website says you do instruct at the school until you have enough hours to go to Horizon. One of the reasons Alaska’s program is cheaper is because of the stipends. I bet that requires you to remain in their program flying for Horizon for as long as Alaska needs you at Horizon. At D225 you pay your way but there’s no contractual requirement to stay at a partner or even come to SWA. I doubt there’s a faster path to a major than D225. And I know D225 is the only program with no strings attached.
