To give you guys an idea of turnaround time on application to CJO, I'm a 175 guy that's been in the regionals for 4 years and I have about 1700hrs in type and 3300hrs TT. In less than 18 hours after application submission I had a CJO. No interview necessary.
I'm currently trying to find as much info as I can before I sign on the dotted line and completely upend my life for more money (but 3x as much money with a newborn at home is impossible to ignore).
I was told that with my experience I'm looking at 157.50/hr. Training pay would be that rate at 64hrs. I'm hoping to get ORD on the 175, but it sounds like ORD is harder to get. I was told to anticipate a forced upgrade within my first bidding cycle off of FO OE - I'm OK with that as long as I'm in the 175.
So yeah, with 4 yrs 121 time, you’ll start at year 4 pay. And since you have more than 750 hrs, it should be CA pay which is $157.50 right now.
You would still be junior, so if forced upgrades do come back around(and we all think they will) you may be sitting as gatekeeper on the 145 until it’s retired. Just a possibility. Depends on how quickly they actually wind down the plane.
Expect ORD within 6 months. They may not be giving it to new hires, but there is still movement.
Questions: how do you guys bid currently at Envoy and what kind of ****ty reserve schedule should I anticipate off of OE?
Currently it’s line bidding. Though PBS did get approved, no one knows how this will go though. Expect crap honestly.
Reserve is 75hr guarantee, generally 11 days off, which should get bumped to 12 soon. Mostly 5on/3off stretches. May change in future though. Expect to fly, especially as a CA.
How many sick calls do you get? Do you need a doctor's note to not get dinged with an occurrence?
You don’t really get a set amount. You earn sick time per month. Don’t remember the rate. CPs we’re having meetings with anyone who called in sick more than twice in a year not too long ago. Though it doesn’t seem like much has happened of it and it’s mostly stopped.
Past rumors of people getting let go on probation for too many sick calls, but honestly that was 2017-18 when hiring was booming. I’d say keep it to less than 3-4/yr and you’d be fine. Suggest having a doctors note on number 4 if you go that far.
Any commuting safeguards if you can't get to your base? I've never had to commute, so any info in this area is beneficial.
We have a commuting policy of 6 excused incidences in a rolling year. To qualify, you have to have made an attempt on 2 flights that would have gotten in before your sign in time. Call after each missed flight. Sometimes they positive space you after first missed attempt. Though it is still at the discretion of the CP to determine if you made a “good faith” attempt.
I personally had a missed assignment after spending all day(starting at like 9am) trying to commute, missing like 5-6 flights. Wasn’t considered a “good faith” attempt because I went home before the last flight of the night, in which I could have gotten on.
Also, you get 4 commuter hotels a month. Just simply request a hotel for the day before or after you sequence and you’ll get one. Sometimes it takes a couple hours, some times 10min. Depends on if weather is cancelling flights and the hotel desk gets backed up.
Lastly, I realize it's a regional and regionals are not really anyone's end goals, but how is the culture? Are people miserable? Is it improving with the announcement of these new pay rates? Oh, and is training considered difficult or easy? Are CKAs looking to fail or pass you?
it’s a mixed bag. Some are passed at future of PBS. Some are excited for it. Just so much has changed in the past 2 months, yet nothing has been implemented yet. So no one knows what to expect. Morale seems to have improved with the pay hike, but we are pilots so sure enough we will starting b****ing about something else shortly.
Most of the bad instructors have gone. Its AQP style training, so very forgiving. Should be simple if you’re already typed.
Thanks in advance.
