My main gripe with the old mako, et al is that they’re not here to have a conversation. They’re here to reiterate the opinion they formed 20 years ago and condescend those who don’t agree with them as naive, Marvins, company men, or whatever. Secondly they’re here to offer people who agree with them praise and other social rewards for agreement, rather than nuanced or informed opinions.
We all have our own reasons for coming to work and different things that make us tick. Thinking one person’s priorities should be universal among our pilot group is beyond juvenile and lazy. The cable news style rhetorical flourishes are getting a little tired. If you want a locker room /CNN style “the best one-liner wins,” have at it, but I’m pleasantly surprised at how many people are interested in forming their own opinions
