I only ended up being on reserve for one month as a new hire NYC320B earlier this year. Sat 1 SC on my very first LC day, by the time I commuted up I already had a trip assigned the next day.
If you stay in NYC you should be able to hold a line very soon if not right out of the gate.
I spent most of my time at the Aloft @ LGA but I was able to sit LC from home.
