Potential problems could be:
-Differences in avionics setup with the real plane
-Practicing incorrect techniques
If you can pick the exact avionics setup and practice what you’ve been taught by your instructor rather then teaching yourself new things it should be a great tool.
Good home setups are not cheap though so you may not save as much.
A good setup will last you years and us resale value.
