Reminds me of the NorthFace argument people make or the sweater argument people make. People who wear non approved uniform items but say “I press my shirt and I’m not overweight”, thinking that’s a pass for the uniform.
There are tons of day trip bags out there that don’t look like you’re going to the gym or 2nd grade math class. If you think strolling up to your gate with a backpack over 1 shoulder looks acceptable as an airline pilot, you’re in the minority for sure.
Rationalize it all you want, it looks ridiculous.
At this airline I’d argue
not “looking acceptable as an airline pilot” is the majority. No one presses their shirts or hems their pants (assuming the pants are even the right color) to a length that says “I’m a professional”
