I'll go to a meeting. $150 hotel. $350 in round trip flights. Come in the night before, leave the day of. So as a commuter that's a 2-day. Probably $2800 in expenses and missed income. If I can start a trip after the meeting I can bring that down to $1650 or so. And if I don't PS home maybe I can save a few more bucks. But I'll for sure PS there because I'll be carrying proxies.
This sucks. It's why I normally don't go to meetings. The whole world just telecommuted for two years. Why can't ALPA get with the program on this? The first order of business after recalls and elections needs to be bringing ALPA into this century. In-house that online "fake news" energy you see on display here. Put all meetings and votes online so attending a couple meetings doesn't cost me more than all my dues for the year.
Right now ALPA is only for guys who don't fly. If it was for line pilots this stuff would be online and members could vote on issues from their hotels in Venice and Mumbai, or from home. This is a top priority issue.
