I thought I'd share this for anyone who might be interested. I posted it on another thread several days ago, but because my post count is low I didn't have privileges and by the time it got approved I think the post got buried. So I just wanted to post it here too in case it might be useful to anyone. After hearing that people use Excel for their logbook it got me interested and I started playing around with it. I made an excel logbook that mimics LogTen Pro. I really like the app, and tried it out for a little while, but don't feel like it's features justify $80/year. And I know that I could use MyFlightBook for free, but I didn't quite like the look of the layout, and I don't feel like it does what I want it to. So I made my own excel version that will track a lot of the same things that LogTen tracks, like instrument and landing currency, time flown in the past 7/30/60/90 days, and obviously it automatically totals all your time, landings, approaches, etc.
In addition to telling you how many landings you've done in the past 90 days and how many approaches/holds you've done in the past six months, it's also color coded to tell you when you're current (green), when your currency has expired (red), or your currency is expiring soon - which is two weeks out (amber). If you're night current, but not day current, it'll still show you as day current, and if your holds are current but not your approaches (or vise versa), it distinguishes between the two and gives you different expiration dates for each so you know when your overall instrument currency expires.
I don't know if anyone will find it useful, but I thought I'd share it in case anyone else likes the currency tracking features of LogTen, but who don't find the overall app worth the price. Follow the link below and go to "File: make a copy" to save your own copy and fill in your time. At the bottom you'll see two tabs, one that says logbook and one that says currency tracking. It can also be be formatted to be printed out so you can take it to your interviews, but that takes a little more explanation and playing around.
