I’m one of those also. Had that discussion with my UOE CKA assistant chief. I told him I’ll delay every time if myself or crew need food. He mentioned other stupid options ie carrying food, cliff bars etc.
Sounds like the chief pilot at my former regional, who wanted to know why a given flight was delayed every morning as it went through the hub when I was flying it.
My answer: "We report before the hotel breakfast opens, we have a 10 minute scheduled turn, on a plane with no food and no lavatory. Both of us need to eat and use the bathroom. What do you expect me to do?"
Without missing a beat, he said, "That trip has a 3 hour break in the afternoon. You can have breakfast and lunch then."
And the guy wonders why I was trying to help unionize the place.
