AUS/SAT is definitely a pipe dream at this point; we have all but given up on even making AUS a focus city anymore after AA has swooped in and eaten our lunch there. I agree. Delta spoke big about AUS for a long time, without ever adding any service to a non-hub. AA came in fast and actually acted. It’s a major missed opportunity in one of the fastest-growing cities in the country.
That said, I don’t think smaller 320 bases in non-hub cities with significant amounts of service would be completely unviable, particularly as our NB fleets consolidate. Crew resources has alluded to it before. I don’t know that we’ll ever see it with our current management team though.
