The other thing the pilot can do, if on holiday at the beginning or end of a pattern, is ask for Atlas to buy you a ticket to/from your holiday destination.

Last time I was in Spain on holiday, my work trip started in ORD. I asked to start outside the US. They bought me a biz class ticket on KLM from Malaga to AMS to start my work pattern. Very nice!

Just now they paid for my biz class ticket from Sacramento to YYZ at the end of my pattern, and then bought a YYZ-ORD ticket to start my next pattern.
