I don’t hear this brought up in aviation circles very much, it rarely comes up. I feel like many in our profession will try to hint their dislike of many of the things this article talks about, but we all just kind of feel like we shouldn’t ‘go there,’ even if we both agree on it. Too much risk, very little reward. There’s always someone within earshot that will ‘report’ us for having a difference of opinion. It could cost us our jobs and careers. Heck, it costed some of these people’s jobs mentioned in this article. I hear this talked about amongst just about everyone in non-aviation circles, all the time. They aren’t afraid to talk about it. But many pilots tiptoe around it. I think even many liberals who are more moderate are getting sick and fed up with the points mentioned in the article. I don’t think the airlines are moving in the right direction with this. They are past the point of taking it way too far. A lot of people outside of aviation HATE flying on the airlines to get around these days, even with the mask mandate dropped. They absolutely hate the staff! We saw a huge spike in air rage incidents in 2021. Not only did we have the mask mandate in place all last year, but we also could see many of the things that the article mentioned as well, namely problems with flight attendants. More and more I keep hearing of other pilots who avoid hanging around FA’s on overnights. I don’t blame them one bit. Some of these flight attendants let the ‘empowerment’ and entitlement they think they have go to their heads. I didn’t notice these things in years past. This in turn causes passengers to get angry with them. Now, I’m not defending any of the passengers that were involved in any of the incidents, but, at the same time, I feel like many of the flight attendants involved may have contributed to the outbursts of anger in many of these passengers, ESPECIALLY over the mask mandate.
It’s no coincidence that we saw the biggest uptick in air rage incidents in 2021 when the mask rule was in place. I think much of the pestering of the passengers with the mask enforcement was done by ‘woke’ FA’s. I’ve experienced it several times even when i accidentally let the mask slip down. It has gotten ridiculous, they have gone overboard with it. And too often there’s a double standard. But yet, our industry normalized it. Many of these FA’s have taken advantage of Covid and all the ‘rules’ and ‘protocols’ associated with it, and have gone on a complete power trip. I hope these trends don’t continue. Despite all of this I still love this industry and the people in it. I think this article is absolutely spot on. Anyone who would disagree isn’t really paying attention.
Also "you ain't got no balls unless you're rollin' coal!" Yeehaw!
