Indoc classes full of east coasters getting slammed with a bunch of LAX/SEA/SLC and the very next class class is full of west coasters not getting a single option west of the Mississippi. One man’s trash is another’s treasure and all that. I recommend to new guys to not stress about it, the entire thing is completely out of your control; time and AEs will eventually solve the problem for you if that’s the spot you end up in.
There’s probably more logistical hurdles, but I’ve wondered before if pooling 2-3 classes together for bids would help the variance. Everybody still bids in seniority order, but you have a larger pot to select from, so there’s isn’t one week getting all east who want west, and vice versa. Pre COVID we saw it with the 88. Guys getting pushed to that who wanted something else, while folks who would be totally fine with ATL Dawg going to NYC 737 and the like.
At least the new system of not having hard numbers of aircraft/bases seems to help people get where they want to go, and AEs are relatively frequent.
