Another big one is Cali state income tax. Factor 10%. At top end United 737 pay, take home would actually be less than top end 737 Alaska pay.

Or I commute for 35 years. Not sure I’d enjoy that with a young family. Say United has 4 days more off a month. I’d eat a few of those in commuting. Doesn’t exactly seem worth it. Tough decisions.
This is to rational for most on here. We base most things on APC with pure emotion, mostly anger, and gross generalizations. Most here are unable to really think. So remember at UA you will probably never work, make 120 hours a month, upgrade to CA on the 787 in 2 years or less. A friend of mine, whose friends with another friend, says he gets bought off his 787 trips every week, so you will never have to commute. Your an idiot if you don’t go to UA. It’s all BS, no place is perfect but every airline is perfect when compared to Alaska on here 🤔

AS is a good company, UA is a good company. Your timing is awesome, if you want to fly wide bodies, go to UA, if you want to drive to work, come to AS. Don’t listen to the angry mob on here. They obviously screwed up their own careers, don’t let them screw up yours. Both will be great careers, there are differences for sure, but either way you should have an amazing career. You do what’s right for you and your family. I have found in life you listen to happy successful people, not angry failures.
