The only reason this is occurring currently is because senior pilots can choose to delay training once awarded a vacancy.
According to the UA thread and DL thread they have the worst system bidding rules.
I see most of the issues directly linked to the expectations that many have of unrestricted airplane and seat movements regardless of training throughput abilities.
UA and DL pilots at least go to training within a few months of their system bid, and if the company delays it, they will start getting bypass pay. They also have multiple bids per year, and can change bases much faster than we can.
We still have 757 pilots from bid 20-02 (two years ago, almost) that got awarded 777 FO and won't go to training until 2023... they are still getting narrowbody FO pay when literally over 1000 newhires since then are getting widebody FO pay.
you tell me which system is worse....
2-3 year WB captains would still be a thing with a better bidding system. The senior pilots would just wait until they could hold a line in the left seat before bidding CA.
