The stuff you learn in 4 years of school will help you get through ground school. It might get a job quicker (airlines know you're less likely to washout), but it doesn't mean you'll be any better than someone who took the part 61* route at the end of training.
I would have to agree. I went to a 4 year 141 pilot school/University and not UND...Riddle...ect. I learned tons in my thousands of hours I flew after I graduated that was priceless. Had to grind it out flying 135 cargo (check hauling) and 135 charter. I have nothing against the low timer getting on with a regional but they still have lots to learn.....and its in a fast paced hard flying world. Not only do they have to learn the flying but the big thing from my standpoint is the CRM. You learn a lot from flight instructing and how to work with many different kinds of people, sharing a cockpit with a fellow pilot for hours on end. Most low time newbee's I have seen and worked with over the years simply are not ready for such a huge step with out more experience. All they have know throughout their training is by what their instructor has taught them to do. We have all taken classes on CRM but its not quite the same as real world experience. I know this from giving about 500 hours of 141 checkrides for Pvt through Multi! The learning curve for the low time new 121 pilot is huge and my hat goes off to the folks that make it through this big step!
