The regionals don't have a hiring problem, they have a retention problem on pilots with 1000hrs of 121 time. No amount of money is going to solve that issue, so the Mesa rates are straight charity to that pilot group.
I agree. I truly believe the only way regionals will be staffed is by offering some form of longevity credit when flowing to mainline partner. That pilot who jumps to an LCC might think twice if they wait to flow and can show up at year 3 pay for example. Easy solution is flow X per month, but mark down longevity dates for 2X pilots. Even if you flow in two years, you’ll come in with one year longevity in the bank. Gets you over the first year pay and things like that. Feels less like wasted time waiting it out at the regionals and less temping to bail for an LCC.
