Once your reserve has started, it's dang near impossible to flip your next day from PM to AM just because the rest requirements. They can involuntarily flip an unassigned reserve for the following day, but there are caveats in the contract and it's pretty specific. The main reason they would do it is for FAR rest.
What they will do all the time is a virtual RAP flip where they deadhead you out to an outstation on day 1 and then just start your trip on day 2 from the outstation at whatever time it starts.
So for example, your PM rap starts at 11, they will call you and have you deadhead at 3pm to Midland, overnight you there, and have you report at 4:30am to start an AM pairing. It's completely legal, allowed in our contract, and completely fatiguing and idiotic.
