But they may be in or very close to checkmate, since the top boyz (I use the term loosely) are in danger of loosing their own jobs if operational meltdowns and bad publicity continue... they probably don't have time to wait for the next big recession, nuclear war, etc. They probably got a little hopeful with the red army moving west into Europe, but that fizzled quickly. The one they thing they value more than defeating the pilot group (again) is their own cushy gigs.

The real question here is if the operational meltdowns and resultant mass cancelations are not actively being planned for? Profits during the last meltdown season and resultant consolidation were massive. 14% I believe. Staffing woes may not be leverage if the meltdowns result in record profits. Is this how the airline will be run? In the long term? Short term? Only time will tell. Look for the next crisis February 1.
