I think with 99.5 percent of captains you will be fine. If a fed shows up with a beard, they are darned sure letting them ride.

The official rule says goatees and mustaches are allowed and beards are not, but I don't think anyone will really care, especially if you explain that your carrier allows it. I have seen some pretty rough looking dudes ask for a ride and have never had a captain deny anyone.

We do have our .5 percent. I ran into one going home from BWI one day. I was wearing dark, conservative sneakers which are not allowed according to the rules. I asked for a ride and he said "not with those shoes". I offered to change into my work shoes which would have looked absolutely ridiculous with my jeans, but now that he had established his dominance over me, he backed down. I ended up having to ride up front and caught the eye rolls from his FO. Looked at the list later, sure enough, he is a well known superstar.
