The TA solves many of our current inadequacies but not enough to attract and retain pilots in my opinion. 12 days off on reserve is one.
As much as there are reserve work rule improvements, they can only work with an adequately staffed crew especially under PBS. When was this airline ever adequately staffed? I’d have to see the final TA but if history is an indicator, this management will manipulate the language to its full extent which means that the pilots will get screwed, both directly and indirectly. This is from someone who sat reserve for 8 years not by choice.
Any aspiring airline pilot would list Alaska in the bottom of the top ten airlines. What exactly does this place offer that is industry leading? Okay, if this TA passes we will be until the big 3 and SWA surpass us in less than a year. Snap up in September’23 will not be enough. This TA for the most part is industry average and our competitors’ will be industry leading. So, is Alaska a destination airline? Yes, for those who are too lazy to seek better opportunities, who cannot get hired else where, who are too old, and for the few who actually love the Koolaid here. It is however, a good place to pull over and get a type then move on. Shoppers, don’t fall for the Alaska discount! The best we can hope for is a buyout by DAL, UAL, or even SWA.
