United hires FTIs (Fleet Technical Instructors). These are non-pilot positions and they teach systems for week 1 of fleet training. I’d avoid this if you want to actually be a line pilot.
PI’s (Pilot Instructors) teach the rest of aircraft specific training. These are seniority list line pilots. Assuming this is what you’re referring to, you need to get hired and be on property for a year (I believe) to be eligible.
