As I recall, it wasn’t a hard and fast requirement, but is was strongly requested for everyone to sign up with their name. And you can’t change your username once you’ve signed up using your real name. A mod has to do it. I agree with you though. Screen names and moderation are best. Here’s a post from Irv discussing names though:

Real Names

This is the post where I shame all you guys using screen names.

This site was created to be something different. The tagline is community / comradery. It's a lot easier to create an actual community of people if we use our real names. So far the tone on this site has been fantastic. I have only had to "moderate" one person for being inappropriate. I think people on this site get it and know that it's supposed to be different than the Bluepilot site. Using real names goes a long way in keeping the tone on the up and up. This doesn't mean we can't vent our frustrations occasionally! I have and so have others.....fairly heatedly at times.

Many of you are using your real names. Me and the others doing the same appreciate it. I've found it fun seeing people I've met on this site in the real world. It helps turn this fairly impersonal profession into one of actual recognition and acknowledgement. It allows us to be a team....whatever our objective is!

So to all you screen names out there (I know who you are but nobody else does), please consider dropping me or Scott a PM. We will change it through the admin console.

Thanks.
