Now the chance of me getting used on my VDO days? I don’t know. Probably not a lot but because they’re surrounded by reserve days maybe I have a higher chance. Not sure the priority and order of assigning trips to reservists and people VDOing
With you being on the 777 and having global reserve rules I don’t think VDO will do anything for you. I’m sure someone will have the contract reference to either prove this or not, but I don’t think it’s relevant. Global reserve means all of your days off, except your 6 HDO’s, are there for the company to flex into wether you like it or not. Think of them as Involuntary VDO’s if you like. You get them restored, but you will not get extra pay for them by “volunteering” to be flexed. You are already “volunteering” by being on global reserve.
Reserve and the misery or enjoyment of it completely varies by BES. I’m WB and commute to reserve by choice. It’s a totally different experience than NB reserve and also depends on your commute and ability to stay somewhere. Again Reserve is so wildly different between BES that you can not make a generalization about it here as a whole. You have to know where it is and be able to speak to someone in that specific BES to understand how reserve is for that subset. It sounds nuts, but it really is that specific here as to how your experience will go.
PM me if you would like to know more specifically about it.
