Very informative post. The worst thing that happened to our leverage and the RLA was the railroads being released so quickly by the NMB. If the railroads go on strike, it will absolutely be the worst thing that could happen to the airlines because the NMB and the politicos in DC will see the chaos and the devastation to the economy. If that happens, you can say adios to even the hope of being released by the NMB.
Best thing for us is if the railroads accept the PEB recommendations + subsequent tweaks and no news of rail strikes is ever talked about again on the airwaves. I don't think that's happening based on reports in the media and rumors from people connected to the union world. Rail workers are super frustrated and there is a disconnect between the frontline employees and their union leadership.
Believe me, the rail workers have it far worse than us. They need to walk.
