Not only that you can commute in on your SC time, you can also call skeds and get released to commute home with 2hrs left in the 9hr window, so a SC can just mean go to base for 5or so hours for the day if you get a SC window that is commutable.
You can, if the scheduler allows it. I had infamous (John) tell me, "no, you used your two hours at the beginning of the SC, I'm not going to release you early."
It cost me an extra night in a hotel.
