I would never do a greenslip on reserve if there weren't PB days. But I never pick up extra flying when I'm a line holder either. I like my days off and if I plan on doing greenslips, I specifically bid reserve. Days off > more money. To me, I realize everyone is different and has their own calculation.
Concise and honest description of the hows/whys of RES GS.
That said, if the current system goes away, and no one/large percentage of RES decline to pickup GS, the company will have to "staff the airline properly."
So which is it? Keep the current system so those who have the luck of the draw in base/equipment/seat get to slurp up all the $$$ and extra days off? Or have a "properly staffed airline".
Because it can't be both.
(FWIW, If I were in a category/seniority situation that gave me 4 months of rolling thunder every year, I wouldn't want any changes either. I'm not. Like you say, everyone has their own calculation.)
