United is in a weird spot though without any WO’s available to merge onto their mainline seniority list. I’ve heard American may already be preparing to go that direction. The TA that was recently offered to American’s pilot group has pay scales included for their RJ’s.
UAL has made it pretty clear that they don’t want anything smaller than the 319/737-700 on the property. If failure to staff the regionals changes that plan and UAL did decide to bring the 175’s to the mainline side, they really don’t need a WO to merge into the list. UALPA would never allow anything other than a staple anyway. UAL already owns 175’s. They can simply bring them to the UAL side and hire off of the street to staff them. That avoids all merger cost and seniority integration issues. Bringing them over to the UAL side would also allow them as many 175’s as they want as well as make the E2 variant possible. Doing so could also make adding the 190/195 E2 a more realistic possibility. I really don’t see that happening. I think their plan is that elimination of the 50 seat fleets will free up enough pilots in the regional system to staff the existing 175’s.
