Has anyone ever done the math here?

Total month $ divided by Time Away from Base? That’s how little you make per hr while you’re away from your family.

I already had a job that payed me to be there before and after the flight. It was 1hr prior and 30min after the flight, it felt good knowing the company validated my time on the ground.

We do so much work on the ground that we should be compensated for it. I always said, the preflight is the hardest part of the job, you’re planning, verifying everything, dealing with FAs, MELs, Maintenance issues last minute, etc etc.

We should get payed for that time. Also, we should get payed for time between flight. Three hour sit? You get extra hour and half pay (30min post flight + 1 hr preflight + 1.5hrs between your duties). That and a good crew meal inflight and you’ll see how suddenly your 12hr duty days goes down to 8-9 with longer overnights and probably commutability will get better too.
