Pick IAH anything vs commuting

the long haul flying isn’t going anywhere at United. Go NB in base first year if possible. You won’t be flying that much anyway first year on the WB but you will be sitting around in a Crashpad boarded a lot your first year.
one last point point in case you are not familiar with UAL you can bid up in pay bands at any time but you cannot bid down. So you could go 320/737 IAH then put in a bid for IAH 777, 787, and 756 FO and if you hold any of those during your first year you move up to the next bid group while and at any time you feel frustrated with NB flying just bid up and out to where you want to be.
good luck

I will instead point out that you can always bid up from 737/320 to 777 if you desperately miss long haul. You cannot bid from 777 to 320 after 6 months.

I also wouldn’t expect industry leading reserve rules in the next contract, when ever that happens. I’d plan on our current book with the possibility of a few minor tweaks. If there are significant improvements to reserve then be grateful, but if not, you will have planned accordingly. Despite what some people say, we’re not going to reverse 20+ years of contract erosion with one deal. Significant improvements to our current contract is a reality, inflation adjusted contract 2000 is a pipe dream.

So you will always have problems plus when wx goes marginal they just start cutting flights and you won’t make your commute in time. Plus the CP there is a d***. Missed assignments on probation in SFO is a bad move. You’ve been warned by a lot of folks on this forum. Good luck.

Go NB and drive to work and once you get a feel for what that commute realistically looks like, how often you’ll get used/long you’ll be on reserve, etc then you can bid up if you want.
Thank you all for the info. I didn’t know about the bidding up. I’m relatively new to the USA so I’m still learning a lot about how things work here. This has been a really big help.
