So supposedly the current uniform is based on a Naval officers uniform. I looked this up.

https://www.mynavyhr.navy.mil/References/US-Navy-Uniforms/Uniform-Regulations/Chapter-3/Male-Officer/

The “Service Dress” uniform appears closest to what we wear, so I’m guessing that its the model for ours. As to when it’s to be worn I found this;

May be prescribed for wear year-round to all official functions when Formal Dress, Dinner Dress or Full Dress Uniforms are not prescribed and civilian equivalent dress is coat and tie.”

The “Service Uniform” wear guidelines are as such;

”Worn in Summer/Winter for office work, watchstanding, liberty, or business ashore when prescribed as uniform of the day.”

Would our time at work (watchstanding?) not seem to fit the latter set of guidelines better? Is the service dress uniform worn on say the bridge of a destroyer or in the CIC of a submarine?
I’m not former navy so I’m asking the question of those that were.
