They most definitely did. There were pilots positive space commuting to Europe and back between trips under the guise that they were heading home to Europe and back the day before their trip started.
I’m sure people did that, but why would your average non commuter do that on vacation with their family? There should be a travel benefit for all pilots, including the ones who live in base.
