They went on strike in 2001, and caused a major disruption. In the end they settled with the best contract in the regional world, but unfortunately 9/11 was just around the corner, leading to cutbacks and bankruptcy.

The circumstances of the strike created some major resentment within DAL management ranks, and it's likely that some of those folks still hold a grudge.
