You're the guy that goes to vegas and loses but comes home bragging about how much you "won"!
We only had 50 total orders for the 787 originally. 25 United and 25 CAL. We had 50 options as well.
We’ve taken delivery of all of the original 50 orders and we’ve also exercised options on 32 more 787s, of which 16 have been delivered and we still have 16 more to be delivered, 5 of which are coming in the next month. The reason we aren’t getting the new order until 2024 is because its going to take all of 2023 to get the remaining 787s from the original orders. Kirby said he plans on getting all 20 787s. The company pays an option fee up-front, so if we don’t get them, we lose that fee. Its to lock in the price at today’s dollars and also give us an out if there is some major economic event. Bottom line is we will have 182 787s by 2032 and probably over 200 by 2035.
What’s better is that these are replacing 767s (higher pay/bigger planes) and more for growth.
Now we just need a contract.
