My reasoning for this is that if we start opening other sections of the contract, we will no longer be in expedited mediation. In fact, the NMB may look at opening many other sections of the contract as starting over at day one since the original agreement was to have focused negotiations of just a few sections. How long would it take if we had to start over. If we decide to move the bar on focused negotiations, how long would the NMB make us wait until they started the process of mediation that could lead to a release for self help. IMO, retirement was always the heavy lift. I think we can get this group to unify behind a focused approach, but a short contract. Try to tell everyone that we are starting over and it may be another 2-4 years until we get a new contract and I think behaviors will change, and not for the better. Just an opinion.
Show up with a TA containing concessions and watch it get voted down. The market changed quickly on Dec 9. Every single pilot I’ve talked to has indicated they would not vote for a TA containing concessions.
