United owns a lot of the Mesa 175’s. Cheaper to pull them back and then move them to SkyWest or CommuteAir or Republic than taking on all the Mesa employees. (Think salary, healthcare, 401k, etc).
United has been going those salaries and benefits for the better part of a year already. It also puts them on a level playing field with their counterparts who own their subsidiary carriers and have complete control over them. Just a thought….been in this industry for 20+ years and the one thing I know is nothing is certain even when it’s certain!
