As mentioned on other threads, our airline management has asked for concessions on every contract and in the past it’s my opinion thar we negotiated poorly and gave away parts of our contract to get something in return. Multiple other airlines are now getting offers that are all gains no concessions. Our unions negotiating committee updates have made it clear that once again our management has asked for many concessions in nearly all, if not in every single section that was opened by either party.
One major worrying item is that management sought concessions with our scope clause. While we don’t have the notes or any language for what has been agreed upon, the earnings call should make it clear that management wants to outsource much of our flying. We need strong scope language and I for one am not willing to accept any concessions. We worked hard and made many sacrifices during the pandemic, which allowed for record profits and record growth for our airline. We did that only to be insulted and indirectly threatened by FedEx executive Mike Lenz on the earnings call. He said and I quote, “there will be cyclical ups and downs. But as we come out of the current circumstances when it comes back, it would come back in a different way, and we would be using less of our own Purple tail lift and more of partner-lift in order to flow traffic in the most efficient manner possible.”
This should be seen as a shot across the bow for us to get serious and to unify in order to get the contract that we have earned and deserve. It could just be typical shenanigans from our management to scare us into accepting a substandard contract, or it could be a serious threat on our jobs. Either way it is unacceptable.
