Absolutely 100%. Some screw-ups are so egregious that consequential actions are a necessity we should demand. There’s absolutely NO reason scenarios like this should ever occur today with all the TEM, SMM, CRM, etc. that should be second nature for any 121 crew. Mistakes happen, yes, but accountability should still follow.
flying a plane drunk is egregious. Willfully and knowingly violating SOP is egregious. This was a severe mistake that could happen to any one of us. If you don’t think it could happen to you, you’re probably next in line.
these pilots will receive remedial training and as others have mentioned, will never do this again. I would feel more safe flying with these crew members after re-train than I would with those who think this is an unfathomable mistake.
