It “sounds” like this is actually a win win for both sides, as it gives pilots the opportunity to choose if they want to do this (which, some will always) while giving the company some operational flexibility when they “feel” they need it.
Though, one thing that was mentioned to me that should give everyone food for thought-
18hr Long Callout sounds great. But will they turn around and just put MORE pilots on Short Call as they have the ability to do that up to 6 times in a month? [23.S.2.c]
It does sound that, if put on SC, an individual could then volunteer to be a VAS (if it’s offered)
Hopefully these are the types of questions that get asked and answered on their side, so we know what to ask for and watch out for on our side!
