It’s trust. The tsa is saying - you can’t trust your crew. Metal detectors are not finding contraband. They are looking for weapons. We have an axe. We have a missile. It’s sowing seeds of distrust and it’s just unnecessary. Also some metal detectors have an additional screening random. You can set that off without setting off the detector.
Uniformed crew are generally exempt from metal detector random. Been there, skipped that.
Not everyone going through KCM is going to be operating the aircraft. The fact is, guys are bringing unsecured weapons through security and some are getting caught. Everyone whines about how we (Americans) don't take terrorism seriously but if it leads to wasting an extra few minutes of your time, it's outrageous
