Quote: By doing a little reading between the lines of the SPSC email, it appears that the union is shifting gears from negotiating to planning for an impasse since there are no more scheduled mediation meetings. I believe that we will see the prepared strike vote education campaign beginning as soon as an impasse becomes official. The union leaders said at the joint council meeting that it’s ready to go, but that it wasn’t time to start the campaign. If we are at impasse with the company then NOW IS THE TIME.
Once the mediator declares an impasse, the clock literally starts that day. So we would be allowed to strike at exactly 30 days after the day the mediator has declared an impasse. I would think that it would be beneficial to start the campaign and vote before an impasse is declared. Although nothing keeps us from continuing status quo past the cooling off period but management could also lock us out or impose their terms as well.
