Lets assume the very worst in our NC, that he would be willing to pass a substandard TA to the body for ratification. If this were true, the company’s offer must be horrific for him to communicate to the MEC the need for a strike vote.
Now let’s assume the very best in our NC, that anything less than an industry leading TA is undeserving of ratification. If this were true, the company’s offer still falls short. Perhaps some would like to know by how much it falls short, and I would argue by a lot, given that our NC and MEC surely understand the weight of a strike vote.
I do believe that our NC wants the best for our entire crew force; thus, if our leaders call for a strike vote, we should support the effort.
That being said, if a TA comes before the body, don’t forget what we’ve been through, don’t forget the excellent piece that a member wrote regarding profit margins, as well as other items as to why we deserve an industry-leading contract! Don’t forget that since we began bargaining other companies have perhaps shifted the goal posts.
The company doesn’t want to pay us. They want to pay the execs and their buddies on Wall Street. We have to demand better, and a strike vote is an unfortunate step in doing so!
